Should Roads In Army Cantts Remain Open For Public?
It is a debate that pits the Army against civilians. Should roads in Army cantonments be open to public access? After initially opening up road access to the public in more than 60-odd cantonments across the country, the government seems to have taken a step back and has said it was possible to review the decision after a period of a month. What's more, if there was intelligence to suggest that there could be a security threat, then steps to prevent access could be taken immediately. But for others, the decision to open up road access in cantonments was a welcome move - and the cantonment lifestyle that many in the Army are trying to protect, they say, is a relic of a colonial past. On the show tonight, the spouses of serving Army officers, retired officers, and those who say the roads in cantonments must remain open.
