Paid Maternity: Undue Expense?

A new report suggests that the number of women in the workforce has dipped after the introduction of the landmark Maternity amendment bill that makes it mandatory for work places to give 26 weeks of paid maternity leave. Are companies wary of hiring women simply because they don't want to pay them during the course of their pregnancy? Experts believe that government could provide SOPs to the industry to improve women's participation in the workforce. Has the government's new law backfired?
